The 775th Brown Scapular Anniversary Prayer

Father of Mercy and Lord of Carmel, as we celebrate the 775th Anniversary of the giving of the Brown Scapular to St. Simon Stock, we come before you with hearts on fire, and souls ready to be re-clothed in Your love. May this sacred symbol, —not just a cloth, but a living covenant— awaken in us the flame of faith, the anchor of hope, the river of charity.

As we reflect on the theme “The Brown Scapular: A Symbol of Divine Blessings and Marian Consecration & Protection,” bless us abundantly with your paternal care. May the Brown Scapular —that humble brown cloth worn by saints, soldiers, sinners, and scholars— become our armor in battle, our comfort in grief, and our whisper of heaven in daily life while remaining a living reminder of Your presence in our lives. May it guide us to a deeper devotion, trust, and love for your Son, Jesus, and for Our Lady of Mount Carmel. 

Grant us, through the intercession of the Mother and Queen of Carmel, all the spiritual and temporal graces we need to spread the Scapular devotion with renewed zeal. Enkindle in the hearts of your faithful, not just desire, but hunger to be invested with the Brown Scapular and consecrated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel so that they, like those already invested and consecrated, may also enjoy her maternal protection. 

During this yearlong celebration, pour the graces and blessings of this anniversary upon the Carmelite Order, the Marian Societies that promote the Brown Scapular devotion, our benefactors and collaborators, and those who have already contributed to the building of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Nsukka. As we intensify our efforts to complete the Sanctuary, continue to touch the hearts of your children to help build a befitting place of devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel as an expression of our filial love for her.

May this celebration be a living wellspring of spiritual strength in weakness, of consolation in sorrow, of courage in doubt. And, at the end of our earthly pilgrimage, grant us the grace not merely to die wearing the Scapular, but to die transformed by it, clothed in Christ, cradled by Mary, and welcomed home by the Saints and Angels. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
