When Our Lady appeared to Saint Simon Stock on July 16, 1251, she handed him the Carmelite habit and gave a profound pledge: “Receive, My beloved son, this habit of thy order… whosoever dies clothed in this shall never suffer eternal fire”. Later, through the Sabbatine Privilege, the Church recognized the promise of her maternal intercession leading souls toward eternal life.
However, as the Church reminds us, the scapular is not a magical charm or an automatic guarantee of salvation. It is a covenant. To truly live out this devotion, we are called to enrollment, to consistent and faithful wearing of the sacramental, to daily prayer, and to a life lived in a state of grace. Let us remember that the scapular does not replace our spiritual duties; rather, it disposes our hearts to love the Lord more deeply and protects us as we journey toward the holy mountain of everlasting life.
